PHASE 3
Architecture for Place-Making - Individual ( 70% )
We are required to develop a Learning Centre for the urban community that responds to the needs identified in Phase 1. Our design should integrate form, space, and façade to create positive outdoor spaces, animate building edges, ensure appropriate scale, accommodate flexible functions, and connect to a thriving public realm.
We must consider technical, structural, environmental, and legislative requirements, including tropical design, lighting, accessibility, circulation, fire safety, and building services. The building should be 3–5 storeys and 1200–1300 m², with spaces for studios, workshops, exhibition, library, gathering areas, cafeteria, and offices, while providing inclusive and safe access for all users.
The design must retain the historic character, integrate with street context, and demonstrate a coherent architectural language, combining theoretical, technical, and practical considerations in a fully resolved proposal.

Reflection
TGC 1.1 Able to put theories into practice
In this project, I applied my knowledge of materiality and detailing to enhance both the experiential and innovative qualities of the design. By experimenting with different materials, textures, and construction methods, I was able to translate theoretical concepts into tangible architectural outcomes. This process helped me understand how careful detailing and thoughtful material choices can shape the user experience while reinforcing the design intent, allowing me to put theory directly into practice.
TGC 4.1 Communicate appropriately in various settings and modes
In this project, I learned to communicate my design ideas clearly through a combination of 2D drawings, 3D models, and presentations. Translating complex architectural concepts into visual and verbal formats helped me convey my design narrative effectively to both peers and tutors. This process strengthened my ability to adapt my communication to different settings and mediums, ensuring that my architectural intentions are clearly understood and appreciated.
